Human Tensions and Self Realization
Mental stress has become a growing human problem in the science age all over world. Mental stress is the mother of most of the diseases. The doctors say that too much of mental stress results in to malfunctioning of body organs and creation of ailments. The human being has been given power of thinking by nature. The stress caused by too much of thinking, or excessive use of the thinking power is a common issue that existed all times. The post war period brought great change in the living styles of the people all over world. The age of competition and age of target based working for economic recovery and development started. The advancement of science got profound acceleration due to competitions. The science did not remain need based but became opportunity based and captured the human mind. Science intruded in every field related to human being, to the extent that the stage of dependence on science has been arrived. In my own case, I very well remember that our family of nine members needed only one fan during the hot summer days in the year 1955 at Nagpur, my native place in India, where the temperature in summer raises up to 47 degree Celsius. Now since more than a decade I am staying in Mumbai where the maximum temperature is 35 degree Celsius, and I can't bear the outside heat. I am alone now; still I need at home the air conditioner whenever the temperature rises above 29 degree Celsius. It gives me lot of mental stress whenever I visit the places sans air conditioning arrangements. I became a slave of science automatically, because my body needed more and more comforts.
I do not disagree with the people arguing for science. Science advancement is undoubtedly essential. In the fields of health, infrastructure development, providing employment, solving food problem etc. Science has brought in a great revolution. However, we can't connive at the disadvantages of science. Human mind has a built in provision to misuse whatever and wherever he gets something to misuse without much risk or even with risk. The wild use of science and technology to earn money by providing luxuries, convenience and facilities to people is increasing very fast day by day. These gifts of science are becoming the major grounds for the growing stress in the world. Increasing lust for money, comforts honor and bodily pleasures are some of the main reasons for the growing tensions. Science age has facilitated people to acquire most of the luxury things by spending money, and always kept an attraction or challenge open before the people that higher the comforts are available higher the money is spent. Earning money has almost become the motto of human life in this free world after war. This one point program of ?earn money? allied with a sub program of ?enjoy life any way? has been added with a terrific sub-sub program of ?Let me enjoy, let others suffer?. So, the science age slogan has shortly became as ?Let me earn money for enjoyment anyway without bothering for sufferings of others?. The reckless measures to earn money and dirtiest selfishness have marked the science age which has raised the human stress problem to the extreme heights.
There are innumerable reasons for the human tensions. Every individual in this world has his own typical cause for his tension. Everybody thinks, "Nobody can understand my problems" and while speaking to others he tells, "I understand your problems". One thing is true that everybody has reasons for his tensions, and degree of tensions is different and more or less in each case. Some of the people are really unfortunate and some people only think that they are unfortunate without having higher degree tension. You can't say that a person who is in depressed mood due to death of his keen has the tension that equates to a tension of another person whose girl/boy friend has not turned up on date. However, comparing degree of tension is difficult in most of the cases.
