It is good that you read Ramayana daily. Please do not get involved in to
stories, instead, understand the true Rupa of Prabhu Ramachandra.
You must read Yoga Vasistya to understand more about Shri Rama.

Aashirwad,
Shivling or any other sign or idol in Hinduism is meant only for
concentration of mind on a single object. Alternately, it is aimed
at making the Sadhak understand that the the world only exist
in mind. Nothing could exist except Brahma.
