What is a 'mantra'?Why is it necessary to recite a certain number of a mantra?What is 'Dhayan' that is recommended before recitating a 'mantra?

1. Panda is a person who knows about soul (Atma) says Jagatguru Shankarcharya.
2. Mantra - "Mantryate guptam paribhashyate"
Mantra is secret language of conversation.
3. Mantra- "Devadhinam Sadhanam"
Mantra is a mean to achieve God.
4. Mantra- "Mananat tryate iti"
The group of letters that heals and saves a person by recitation is Mantra.
The word "Mantra" has many definitions and many meanings. The vedic
Richa (stanza) is also called Mantra.
108 is the number that is derived from the multiplication of 12 signs and 9 navansh.
(This covers the universe)
The numbe of repeatation of Mantra in recitation has certain base when the number is recommended in every case of prayer of Dhyan.
Ultimately, Mantra is Sadhan mean to concentrate mind and give up worldly thoughts.

How I decide for any work that right or wrong?

Dear Ramesh.
Thank you for your submission. This is a good question.
If you have in mind as to whether the act you are going to perform is good or bad, you may ask the following three questions to decide it. This is based on my vast experience and the Shastra bodh (knowledge of scriptures)
1 Shall this cause me tension any way in future?
2. Shall this result in to loss, troubles, death of anybody or of your own ?
3. Shall this be beneficial to me without harm/loss to anybody ?
Answers to these three questions will give you right direction to choose between good and bad.

I would like to know from your esteem self, the proper way of meditation. I have tried different ways like trying to keep the mind blank, like concentrating on a small area of say a leaf in the mind. I keep on jumping from one method to another. What is the best way.

Dear Pravin,
It is always better to take "Ajna" of Gyani guru before starting any upasana. One should not make experiments arbitrarily, it may prove harmful.
I would suggest you as under :
1. Visit the site www.onlineselfrealization.com <http://www.onlineselfrealization.com/> and read all the articles carefully.
That will give you a new vision.
2. Fill in the enclosed form and send me.
3. After your online "Dixa" I shall be able to suggest you a way of meditation.
4. If all the above does not suit you, just sit for meditation attending to inhaling and exhaling. Do not make any target, small or big, live or dead.
