Namaskar K Natrajan,
I read your letter and I could not stop tears rolling down my eyes.
I very well understand the tragic death of your child and the kind of
stress and pains your family must be facing. I pray God to give you
and your family members courage to face this kind of worst situation
that we will not wish even for the enemy.
I shall rquest you to read the 2nd chapter of Bhagwat Geeta and try
to understand its meaning. You will get some consolation to your
sad heart. In the ancient Hindu scriptures, understanding that anybody
could face such a situation, lot of philosophical and divine thoughts
are presented to give courage to a person suffering loss of family member.
The major doctrines are as under :
1. Atma (Soul) is immortal. The life is illusory because it appears only for sometime.
Life comes and goes, Atma stays. (Geeta)
2. In fact no body takes birth and nobody dies. Our mind has perception of its appearance and disappearance which we call birth and death. (Upanishadas)
3. Birth of innumerable lives, their actions during they are alive and their deaths are simple interactions of the properties (Triguna) of nature. The courageous and intelligent people understand this and do not make grief of loss. (Geeta)
4. All the relations in the world are created by mind. (Maya). Everybody is independent and has come here to enjoy or suffer the fruits of his own karma.
It is not wise to make our own mind full of joy or pains due to good or bad happening to others. (Khapti Baba) etc.
Let me tell you a real story.
Gadge Baba was a famous saint in Maharashtra. He was married and had children.
Thousands of people used to attend his discourses, especially from the rural regions. In one of his meeting when large crowd was listening to his thoughts and were spell bound due to his divine words, a person suddenly climbed the stage unceremoniously. He whispered some words in the ears of Gadge Baba and left the stage. Baba for a moment was stunned. He stopped his speech for two minutes and just closed his eyes. People were sursprised to see sudden change but were quiet. Baba then continued his discourse and continued it for one hour. After end of programme some people asked him, why was he quiet for two minutes. He replied that a person who climbed the stage had given him the message that his son who was admitted to hospital, died. He then said to people in Marathi, " Jati Yeti Kotya ni Koti, Radu Kuna Kuna sathi"
This means, "millions take birth and millions die, how am I expected to cry for everyone"?
He used think that all human beings are his keen relatives !
My dear Natrajan I understand that mere philosophy can't take away your deep sorrow, but there is not reply to such conditions except in Hindu philosophy.
I request to read our philosophy and any how pass the time till you have overcome the sorrow at least partially. I pray God again to give you courage.
Yours
Swami Aniljee
