Probably the best write up on the secrets of huge number of Hindu Gods, since past 1000 years !
Great volumes of Puranas (18 in number) and other religious literature with millions of pages were written to feed the nescient heads of the people.  Thousands of imaginary Gods were created and millions of their stories were written.  It was reiterated in every ancient scriptures that the God is one and incarnated in many names and forms.  People in the world that time liked the stories of the Gods and were convinced about the external presence of God due to their structure of mind that had the memories of the past and past births. These stories of the Gods are so much fitted in the heads of the people that even God can’t convince the nescient people, otherwise.

The Upanishadas say that the human organs are created extrovert naturally. It is natural habit of human being to look outside for any known or unknown things. This makes him search the God externally.  He never thinks that he has something in his own body that rules his body. His body is a greatest machine with lot of complicated functioning of the organs.  A human can’t control the functioning of his own body without the help of something extremely powerful and omniscient occupying the body.  Automatic respiration, thirst and hunger, digestion, creation of new cells etc are the functions which are automatic in the body. The omniscient carries it out from within the body. Every man made machine has the engine inside the machine that powers and controls the function of the machine. Similarly, there is something in human body that powers and controls the body. But as told by Upanishada, human has no habit of thinking what is inside his body. He looks for the God outside with his own imaginations but do not think that there is something in his body which is supernatural. There is something in his own body which is omniscient. The Holy books knowing this ignorance of the people had no other Go, but to tell them about God elsewhere.

The new sects created in India like Buddhism wanted to reveal the truth, and they ruled out the possibility of existence of external Gods, or even existence of God and propagated the mixed principles of Yoga and Vaisheshika theories among the people. Many new sects were created who principally opposed the Veda due to absence of knowledge of the words of Veda.  In the same way a few strong organizations opposing the stories of deliberately created multiple Gods, were formed outside of India, and were named as religions.  These religions never knew the basic theorems and doctrines of Veda.  They only opposed to apparent polytheism in ancient Indian Puranas.  The religions outside India formed their own new stories of God and the stories of creation by God like Indian mythology.  They formed new regulations of the religions and propagated different made-believe stories of Gods like Puranas/epics.  Those stories were mostly based on the history of lands and prevailing culture and were naturally accepted by the local people.  The religions formed in such a way developed strongly due to their militant, organizational, aggressive and expansive nature as well as the backing of the rulers of the land (Rajashraya).  They forgot their origin of thoughts that was surely the ancient Indian scriptures. These non Indian religions are nothing but the human regulations in the name of God with the devotional base. Veda is a natural religion of human being and every new born. People make the new born a Hindu, or make him belong to some other religion.  Veda only can unite the world together because its principles are Sarvasamaveshak, (does not oppose to any faith).  Veda never opposed to Buddha or even Charvaks.

(Note : Charvaks were the people in ancient India, like today’s Westerners. Eat, drink and be merry was their religion.  “RinamKritwa GhritamPibet”,  was the teaching of the Charvaks;  this means borrow money and enjoy this world; there will not be chance to come back again. Adwaita philosophy of Vedas did not oppose them, though Charvaks opposed the Vedas)

Each and every Indian mythological story either has a knowledge or Yoga base, or is meant for propagating the social ideals.  The theories of monotheism, polytheism or pantheism are human imaginations.  God is beyond all these three “isms”. God is so pure that no “ism”, “logy” “ian” etc. can cling to God. Unfortunately, how these three “isms” are not at all concerned to God can’t be explained due to the reasons indicated in the above paragraphs.  The Jnanis sit with the tight lips when the religions and Gods are discussed.  They really can’t speak on these subjects.

The path told to realize God which is most admired today is Yoga, meditation and Kundalini theory.  This can bestow upon the seeker some extra sensory power and give ability of concentration, but not the pure knowledge of God.  (Asamradnyat Samadhi, Nirvan or Kaiwalya, are the same and are the ultimate achievements of Yoga).  The self-realization achieved in Samadhi (concentration) by Yoga-mediation-Kundalini Awakening etc.  is NOT at all the knowledge of God.
