“Karmasya gatigahanah” some author has written. It means, “Unpredictable, deep and secret are the consequences of Karma”. The word Karma has an extensive meaning. It is very difficult to understand the meaning of Karma unless you have Guru Kripa. If you are reading the commentary of Hon. Jagatguru Shankaracharya on the Chapter 3 of Bhagwat Geeta, you will have only some idea about Karma. Still I endeavor here to write as to how how doing our own karmas according to orders of Guru is a surrender to Guru.
Any self realized Guru will not ask his disciple to renounce the world unless he observes great earnest in the mind of disciple about gaining the knowledge of God. When the disciple becomes restless with the love of God and his interest in the worldly enjoyments is over, Guru will gradually give him the true knowledge of Karmas. Till then Guru will order him to do his duties diligently.
There is difference between such a disciple who is doing his duties according to orders of Guru and ordinary person doing his duties routinely. Because Guru shall observe his disciple doing his duties and save him in the extreme disasters. He wants his disciples to take the experience of Karmas and ultimately to understand that all Karmas are useless and superficial. The secret lies in the stanza 28 of Bhagwat geeta. That, whatever names, forms and actions we observe and experience during when we are awake are actually the interactions of the three properties of Prakriti. Nothing actually takes place, like in dream we observe many scenes but nothing actually takes place.
To do anything under this sky including own duties according to orders of Guru is called Gurusewa and samarpana or surrender to Guru.
